Description by OLDIES.com:

Scott Forbes stars as real-life western hero Jim Bowie, famous for wielding a knife instead of a gun in his vigorous pursuit of lawbreakers. Bowie invented his renowned knife after being attacked by a fierce grizzly bear in which his rifle jammed at a critical moment in the fight. It was then he decided an especially rugged knife, which he named after himself, would become his weapon of choice. Jim Bowie was a wealthy young planter and adventurer, and his path crossed those of many interesting and famous people, including his good friend John Jame Audobon, pirate Jean LaFitte, Sam Houston, Andrew Jackson, Davy Crockett and Johnny Appleseed.

"The Adventures of Jim Bowie" debuted on ABC television in September of 1956, and ran through 1958. Set in the Louisiana Territory of the 1830s, the popular show dramatized Bowie's adventures while highlighting backdrops of French-American New Orleans and various backwoods arenas. Directed by Lewis R. Foster and Anton Leader.
