Quite simply, the best CD in the Oldies.Com catalog. Anyone who is even remotely interested in Dion should pick this up. I cannot stress enough what a magnificent cd this is.
Great CD Dion is one of the best
On the negative side, Blue Monday, Runaway, Blue Suede Shoes, Rockin Pneumonia? Why?
On the plus side, mostly everything else. It's good to have newer versions of his standards like this, because they represent what he sounds like in concert. The new songs, good intentions aside, aren't really up to the rest of his catalog. The fact that, when this CD was released and he was on tour, he performed Behind Susan's Eyes as a poem, reading from a piece of paper, should tell you something.
Unfortunately, this reactionary move in his musical direction deprives us of new material. I read that this CD was recorded so he could regain his rights to the old hits. Don't know if that's true, but it's still just a greatest hits collection, again, when you get down to it.
The Old Master strikes again !!!
The voice sounds as fresh as a teenager ,the delivery is that of a sublime artist. To better the originals takes some doing but that is what he has done!!! Please come over to the UK !!!!
Dion, He Simply Best's his best .No more no less .great sounding covers.he makes them his own. as isaid he best's his best.
Got disk today, 7-21-03, listened to track 1 and thought it doesn't grab you as "Shu-Bop" did a few years ago. However, as with fine wine and women, it was much better the second time. It is a fine song, well crafted.
The rest of the disk is fine, some of the re-do's seem to be better than the originals. Dion is a master, and his earlier Christian efforts were very fine, also.
Now if the program directors could get away from their cookie cutter playlists and play some ot this stuff, the world would be a better place.
I have the cd,its great!! Dion also did some of the hits in Brooklyn last thursday night. He was GREAT!! I love him!! He looks good too (:
I have followed Dion since my pre-teen years. His music has set the bar for other artists from the Northeast to reach for.His New York street corner sound still sounds great in this new CD. I purchased a copy on June 6 while awaiting the start of his Westbury concert and have had to order an additional copy in order to have copies in both cars. The tribute to other artists from the late 50's and early 60's was great to hear but to hear the way he has reproduced songs such as Teenager In Love, Lovers Who Wander, Runaround Sue and Donna the Prima Donna makes one feel like they're at a concert. When he slows it down a bit with Abraham, Martin and John I can only remember how I just sat and listened in awe to the way he performed it on June 6,2003. This CD is a must have for any Dion fan.
Like others who've written, I've followed Dion's musical journey since the early 60's, never letting go of the vinyl, while adding CDs of the classics, as well as Yo Frankie and Deja Nu. New Masters has not been out of my player (or mind) since it arrived last week. Close your eyes and you're back in time, with the richest, fullest voice you can imagine! Digital recording at it's best only accentuates the incredibly warm, soulful solos and harmonies. It's vintage Dion ...
aged and blended perfectly. Friends/family from 10-70 are magically transformed and moved to sing, dance, cry and remember what it meant to sing from the heart AND soul. This is a must buy if you enjoy smiling, singing out loud in your car, or just want to be taken back to a time too often forgoten. I only hope to hear him in concert someday soon.....
I have been listening to Dion since 1958. I've got 45s, LPs, and many CDs, and this is absolutely the best ever. Updated arrangements but still great rock 'n roll, good doo-wop singing, great songs, wonderful covers, and a voice that has gotten even better and more expressive with (some) age. A truly wonderful album. I won't throw the old ones away because listening to the originals is still fun, but this is the best.
Put away all the other Dion albums.......this is the best!!!!
Dion takes his classics to the new millenium but keeps to the original style.
His covers are in my opinion, are a great tribute and done in classic Dion style and ther is no reason we shouldn't hear any of these songs on Top 40 radio especially the two new songs. If your a Dion fan or a Rock-n-Roll fan this will be an album you won't be dissapointed in.
I always wanted to have grown up in the 50's with this music........well I just did.
