Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 2/5 --
Risen is a sort of Sunday school special, an Easter adventure starring Joseph Fiennes as Clavius, a war-hardened Roman tribune who ends up investigating the disappearance of Jesus after the stone is mysteriously rolled away from the Messiah's tomb.
Times (UK)
Although it offers nothing new or challenging in terms of its narrative, Risen offers some straightforward, uncontroversial, albeit fairly interesting family entertainment for the Easter season.

Refreshingly unpretentious, RISEN reimagines the Gospel as an ancient Roman cop movie...
A.V. Club
Risen...wavers from cheery to gruesome to absurd and lands in the differentiated realm of oddball fun.

Sensitively filmed with some flashes of violence and gore to keep things interesting, Risen is a great resurrection movie for curious non-believers and Christians alike.

A New Testament-era mystery from the man who directed ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES is an intriguing premise...
Empire
RISEN has an 'everything old is new again' feel, harking to the time when sword-and-sandal religious epics ruled the studios, while also freshening up a familiar Bible story with the grit and wry humor of contemporary historical properties.
