So often the bearer of gravitas and dignity, Freeman shows up with a smirk on his face and a song in his heart
Denver Post
Rating: 3.5/5 --
It's ultra low-key as only indie films can be, but there's enough charm and warmth to fill the spaces left by the 'missing' action.

This slight piece of work, written and directed by Brad ilberling, has some amusing moments and thanks to the great chemistry between Freeman and Vega is perhaps more enjoyable than it should be.

Silberling has shot what feels like the first home movie to get a national release; it's too cute to criticize for anything other than its fluff.

While Freeman and Vega are mildly entertaining, the story is too safe and precious to elicit anything more than a passing sense of amusement.

This is a sharp little slice of whimsy with Freeman giving a funny, very laid-back and sometimes touching performance.
Ebert & Roeper
A Hollywood hotshot played by Morgan Freeman, befriends a supermarket cashier just so he can get familiar enough with acting like somebody poor, to get into character for his next movie, and the effort fails miserably.

Product Description:
From the school of THE OFFICE and THIS IS SPINAL TAP comes this largely improvisational single-camera sitcom set in a tragically underused milieu that's ripe for hilarity--the small-town supermarket! Leslie (Eric Lehr) is a New York City businessman who's on the verge of going under when his father passes away, leaving the family business without an owner. Leslie, doing what he has to do, moves back home to make sure the Greens & Grains grocery store isn't bought out by its competitor, a daffy and inappropriate value mart manager named Amy Anderson (Jennifer Elise Cox, THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE). Now in charge of an entire establishment of oddball supermarket employees, Leslie, who isn't exactly debonair himself, seems to land in a strange situation every week. But, despite the occasional exploitation of a Jesus-shaped stain for marketing purposes, harassment of customers, or subjection of his employees to rigorous reality-show-like challenges in a desperate attempt to find out who has to get fired, Leslie is a caring boss and it doesn't take long for the G & G crew to become a bizarre, oversized family. Each 22-minute episode of 10 ITEMS OR LESS has been edited down from roughly 30-plus hours of improvised dialogue. This set includes all 13 episodes from the series' first and second seasons.
Description by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment:
Hilarious improv series! This outrageous work-place comedy explores the relationships of co-workers at a grocery store where uproarious situations and quick-witted characters combine to produce laugh-out-loud antics everyone can enjoy. When an inexperienced young Leslie Pool inherits his father's family-owned store, his hands-on, open communication approach to store management soon alienates him from his misfit employees. Despite his determination to prove that he can do things his own way, the resulting chaos spawns a comedy of errors that catches everyone in its wake.
